Auntie Lucy’s Recipe Box: Yum Yum Pie

Here’s an interesting recipe I found in my mother’s recipe box. Auntie Lucy, as she was known to all my cousins, liked to make desserts that she thought were modern, easy, and different. This pie is much more a reflection of the craze for things kooky and convenient in the post World War II years than it is Polish. In her own words:

Yum Yum Pie

3/4 cup milk –1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs — 1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup raisins — 1/2 cup nut meats

Line pie tin with crust.
Put in raisins and chopped nuts.
Pour custard over and bake in slow oven until set.

What’s missing from her notes, of course, is the process of making the crust and the custard, something she undoubtedly figured any cook would know–or that could be found in most any cookbook.
